Even if you’re not Irish it’s fun to get in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day. Get crafty with your kids and try these two easy and fun St. Patrick’s Day shamrock crafts.
For Both Crafts, You Will Need:
- green and/or white paint
- paintbrush
- construction paper
- one bell pepper
- your child’s hands
Bell Pepper Shamrocks
Make festive shamrocks using a bell pepper as a stencil! This craft is perfect for kids of all ages. Younger children will love having the large pepper to hold onto, and older kids will have fun painting the pepper and making designs on the paper. Here’s how to do it.
1. Cut the pepper in half width-wise, so you can see its natural shamrock shape. Clean out the insides.
2. Have your child paint the rim of pepper with green or white paint (which is great fine motor skills practice) . If your child is younger, you can have him or her dip the pepper stencil into a pool of paint.
3. Then, use the pepper like a stamper, and let your child stamp away!
Hand Print Shamrocks
If your child loves to finger paint, this is the St. Patrick’s Day craft for you. Use their adorable little hands to create a shamrock. The best part is that this makes a great keepsake of your child’s tiny hand prints. Do this each year and compare to see how much your children have grown.
1. Paint your child’s hand green or white. Or, let if your child is older, let them paint their own hand.
2. Position their hands on the paper to make the shape of a shamrock. Put the palms facing in, with one hand print facing right, one facing left and one pointing upward. Add a fourth hand print for a four leaf clover.
3. Paint a stem and you’re done!
