Last weekend, we announced that one of our writers would be taking the Hell Week Challenge based on the book Hell Week: Seven Days To Your Best Self by Erik Bertrand Larssen. Well, I am that writer. My name is Kristen and I have been with Daily Mom for a year. I am a stay at home/work from home mama. I am checking in with you all to let you know how the Hell Week Challenge has gone for me so far. If you want to get ready to start your own Hell Week, order a copy of this book from Amazon and you can get started next week if you are ready! If you did not read our original post, check it out here. It explains how Hell Week works.

Hell Week has seven rules to follow every day, and each day has a theme that will challenge you in a different area of your life. And by challenge, I mean, force you to take a hard look at yourself and dig deep to be better! So, go check out the first post if you haven’t already and then come back here and see how the week has been for me so far.

Keep Film Alive! Capture your Summer the Old-School Way

Think back to summer camp when you were a child. Chances are your mom had stuck a few disposable cameras in your backpack and sent you on your way. You didn’t think twice before pushing the shutter button, and when the week was over, you couldn’t wait to get home and have your pictures developed so you could see what you actually shot and relive those magical moments. That was the norm. That was how people took pictures. You had hard copy images you could hold in your hand, and chances are, you kinda loved it.

This summer, go retro on your road trip, tropical escape, or staycation by popping those tiny tubes of 35mm film back into your bag. But in this day and age, of course things have advanced, including film, disposable and instant cameras, and accessories, so your film experience will be anything but old news!

3 things you should tell yourself before getting into your swimsuit

It’s swimsuit season, usually a dreaded time for women everywhere, except for the ones whose bodies we ogle over, whose Instagram pictures we stare at until our eyes bleed, and those who make us feel like no matter how many hours we put into the gym or how many calories we count we will never amount to their bikini-goddess-role-modelness. What if this summer though, we learn how to embrace the body we’ve been graciously given, we try instead to become healthier rather than 6 pack toned, we enjoy our family and friends instead of living in the pit of gym-hell, and we tell ourselves a few things before getting into our swimsuit that might actually build us up instead of tear us down.

How I Rescued My Morning Makeup Routine

Every mom dreams of peaceful mornings: a hot cup of coffee, a warm shower, and a relaxing start to her day. For most moms, however, that is rarely the case. Many times we are rushing ourselves out the door with our kids underfoot. Maybe you are a stay-at-home mom whose morning routine consists of hair in a messy bun, yoga pants on, and a quick brush of some makeup and you are out the door. Or you are a working mom who is expected to do more than the bare minimum to get ready each day and need something that is fast, easy, and provides the coverage needed to cover up those tired eyes and less-than-luminous skin.

As a mom of three young girls, I am no exception. In fact, I’m more like the rule. Getting myself ready is usually low on the totem pole of the list of responsibilities I have in the morning, but I still like to have a decent amount of coverage before I head off to take my oldest to preschool or run errands. I want something that is light and easy to put on, looks natural, and helps to make me look fresh instead of the dead-tired exhaustion that I actually feel. That is where BareMinerals Complexion Rescue comes in to help me with my morning routine.

Benefits of Weightlifting for Women

Society has twisted the idea of what a beautiful woman should look like within the past 20-30 years. The mainstream fashion industry has formed a view that extremely skinny girls with no meat on their bones are the “most attractive”. Understand that our purpose is not to run down women who are naturally built with a small frame and are naturally thin no matter what they eat; rather the purpose of this article is to shed light on the benefits of weightlifting both mentally, hormonally, and physically. Within the past decade, the fitness explosion has allowed many women to embrace the idea that beauty can be found in strength. This has also led to many women discovering that the statement that lifting weights makes you bulky is a complete myth.
