Car Seat Guide: Maxi Cosi Mico AP

The new Mico AP by Maxi-Cosi is revolutionizing infant car seats for our generation. Not only does the Mico AP have all of the classic features that you love in a Maxi-Cosi car seat, but they are introducing a newer, lighter, safer design in their Mico AP.

With all of the infant seats on the market you might wonder what sets the Maxi-Cosi Mico AP apart from the many overwhelming choices given to you from the likes of Babies-R-Us and Target. Let’s begin with its safety features.

Safety Features

  • 5-point harness with up-front harness adjustment
  • Superior Side Impact Performance with Air Protect® technology
  • Cozi-Dozi™ infant support for smaller babies

The front harness adjustment makes it easy on mom to tighten or loosen the harness without needing the flexibility of a Cirque du Soleil performer or the strength of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Their patented Air Protect technology “is a safety system designed to protect children in some of the most severe side impact crashes, those with vehicle intrusion. Side impact crashes are one of the most threatening for children, accounting for more than 30% of child crash fatalities. Air Protect helps to divert crash energy away from the child, releasing air on impact to immediately reducing impact forces.”

The Cozi-Dozi infant support fills in any extra space between your little one and the sides of the Mico AP. It allows your little one  as small as 4 lbs to use the Mico AP safely and comfortably.

Installation

The Mico AP is incredibly easy to install with its stay-in-car base and LATCH system. If your car does not have a LATCH system or you would like to transfer your seat to another car or an airplane without the base, it can be secured using an approved lap belt.

Since the Mico AP is strictly for infants between 5-22 lbs and 19-29″ in height, it may only be installed in a rear-facing position.

 Comfort and Convenience

The Mico AP is not only comfortable for your baby with its premium, soft padding and fabrics but it is also comfortable for you! It is the lightest infant car seat in its class, making those yards from the car to the restaurant, shopping mall or into the house seem much shorter!

In fact, because so many strollers are complete with Maxi-Cosi infant seat adapters, you won’t have to carry it all the way into the grocery store, but rather just as far as the trunk to secure your Mico AP to any of the following strollers which feature a Maxi-Cosi adapter:

  • Baby Jogger
  • Bugaboo
  • Bumbleride
  • iCandy
  • Jeep
  • Maclaren
  • Mamas & Papas
  • Micralite
  • Mountain Buggy
  • Phil&Teds
  • Quinny
  • Stokke
  • UPPAbaby
  • Valco Baby

Additional Accessories

You can customize your brand new Mico AP with several optional accessories.

Use the WeatherShield to protect your little one from wind and rain while travelling from point A to point B. Wind and rain aren’t the only elements that can bug your baby, though, which is why you want the Bug Net for your Mico AP. You may not think it’s a necessary feature until you need to spend a day at the soccer or baseball fields and suddenly find that your tiny tot is covered in welts from those pesky insects! Save yourself the heartbreak of seeing your babe covered in bites by investing in the Bug Net.

Finally, as the winter weather creeps in, you want to protect your baby, and his car seat, from the cold! Don’t search through the department store for a bulky coat that are unsafe to wear in the seat anyway, look no further than the Maxi-Cosi Footmuff to keep your little one toasty in the harsh conditions!

I have a question. I have this car seat and the base. I followed the instructions to install the base and the side that is not secured by the seat belt still lifts more than an inch and I’m not comfortable with it. Do you have any suggestions on how to properly install the base? Maybe I am doing it wrong.

I am having the same problem as Lisa. We have watched YouTube videos and installed per the manual and the “carseat lady” but the base still can pop up and I feel uncomfortable using this seat with the base not as secure as other car seats I’ve seen installed. Any advice?! We’ve used our feet, knees, changed the incline, etc. Thanks!
