Fun Desserts Your Kids Can Make With You

Do your little ones love to help you in the kitchen, but the recipes are often too complicated, or require unsafe cooking mechanisms to have them participate in the cooking and baking process? Gone are the days of powdered mixes and Easy Bake Ovens. Kids want to be sous chefs in a real kitchen, baking right alongside of you. We have rounded up a couple of simple, kid-friendly dessert recipes that your kids will love to make and eat (we’re not going to lie – you will love to eat them too!).

Butterscotchies are a unique twist on traditional Rice Krispy treats that children and adults will absolutely drool over!

Butterscotchies

Fun Desserts Your Kids Can Make With You 2 Daily Mom, Magazine For Families

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups or Rice Krispies Cereal
  • 1 cup of smooth peanut butter
  • 1 bag of butterscotch chips
How To:

1. Melt the entire bag of butterscotch chips. You can do this one of two ways:  The first way is to place them in a microwave safe bowl and heat it on the lowest setting for 30 second increments, stirring in between, and watching carefully so that they don’t burn. The second way is to heat on a low setting on the stovetop in a pot or a dutch oven. Your chips should be melted to a thick, gooey consistency.

2. Add rice Krispies, peanut butter and melted butterscotch chips together in a large bowel. Mix thoroughly.

3. Spread mixture into a baking dish. Place, covered, into the refrigerator to harden.

4. Cut and serve. (Note: You will want to keep these in the refrigerator in between servings so they don’t melt.)

Be sure to check for peanut allergies before offering these to children under 2 years of age.

Microwave S’mores

Fun Desserts Your Kids Can Make With You 3 Daily Mom, Magazine For Families

What child (and adult) doesn’t love the gooey goodness of campfire S’mores? But sometimes, you just can’t get to a campfire when the craving hits. Microwave S’mores have all the same great taste and can be made in seconds in your kitchen!

Ingredients:
  • 2 Whole Graham Crackers
  • 2 Large Marshmallows
  • A Hershey’s Chocolate Bar
How To:

1. Place 2 large marshmallows and a few pieces of a Hershey’s chocolate bar in between 2 whole Graham crackers.

2. Place on a microwave-safe dish, and microwave on high for approximately 30 seconds. If chocolate is not melted to desired consistency, microwave it for additional 10 second increments.

3. Remove the dish from the microwave and place out of reach of children until it is cool enough to enjoy.
