Car Seat Guide: Recaro Performance Ride

You may have never heard of the German engineered, US assembled Recaro Performance Ride, but that doesn’t mean that it hasn’t silently been making waves in the market as a leader in safety and quality. Find out the reasons why we were so impressed with Recaro when they came across our Daily Mom desks!

Specifications

We are so impressed with the Performance Ride because of its ability to grow with the child! It begins as a reclining, rear-facing seat for newborns as small as 5 lbs. and grows with your child into a forward facing booster seat suitable for children up to 70 lbs.! Rear facing seated height is recommended until 22.5 inches and forward facing up to 50 inches.

The seat itself weighs 20 lbs. and is 29 inches at maximum head restraint extension.

It boasts a removable cup holder, chest clip storage pockets, LATCH storage, durable fabric, and comfortable memory foam and CoolMesh Air Ventilation.

Safety Features

Side Impact Protection

You never want to think about your child being involved in a car accident, but it is always an ominous possibility. Thankfully, Recaro has done everything they can to put your mind at ease when it comes to side impact safety. Their “Side Impact Protection is designed to distinctly protect 5 vulnerable areas of a child in a side impact collision – their head, neck, face, torso and pelvis.”1

Safety Stripe System

You always know that your child’s harness is properly positioned with Recaro’s intuitive white stripe on the 5 point harness. It alerts parents to a possible twist or improper alignment of the strap which can cause entanglement.

Easy to Adjust Harness

The 5 point harness is easily adjustable without taking apart the seat, flipping it upside down or unlatching it. The “harness and head restraint are adjusted together so no re-threading is necessary to properly position the harness shoulder straps to the child.”1 It is so simple to affix the harness in just the right position for any child – from newborn to grade schooler! Don’t overlook the frontally located harness adjuster to secure and tighten the harness conveniently.

Head Restraint

Your child’s head restraint can be adjusted to properly fit his or her head at each and every stage! With just a twist of the knob on the side of the Performance Ride‘s frame, the head restraint is customized to fit your little one!

Don’t overlook the fact that the head restraint padding is made from “real automotive “PUR” foam for added comfort and safety.”1

Installation

The Recaro Performance Ride comes ready to LATCH right into the backseat of your vehicle without any additional assembly required. It is so easy to install with its base and LATCH system. It is also certified for air travel when used in harness mode with the plane’s seat belt.

 Comfort and Convenience

The Performance Ride might be mostly about the safety (as it should be!) but the geniuses behind it certainly didn’t leave parents wishing for a more convenient or comfortable seat for their child, because the Performance Ride boasts ultimate luxury for your child’s ride in the car!

Your child will love:

  • The Removable Cup Holder
  • Comfort Enhancing Memory Foam
  • The four zones of CoolMesh Air Ventilation temperature-balancing fabrics
  • The ergonomic seat structure
  • The Twist Resistant Buckle

You will love:

  • The No Re-thread Harness
  • That it meets international safety standards
  • The HERO technology
  • The built-in LATCH system

I bought this seat for my little girl after doing a web search for a seat for Mercedes cars. When I saw that recaro, a leader in 5 pt safety seats for racing for a century, made one my search for the safest seat was over. It is by far the easiest in installation and as always with the n me a leader in safety. Love that you are spreading the news about this amazing seat. I have had mine since September 2012 and have no complaints. The straps are always even and in line . Mine is the modle without the strap stripe but just as great.

Buy this wonderful seat without hesitation and later with no regrets.

Great seat but it is one brand that has the least amount of space for legs rear facing.

I purchased 2 Recaro Performance car seats . One for my vehicle and one for my sons . My granddaughter is is 2 years old and she can get out of the shoulder straps ! She can reach down and loosen the latch ! This is very dangerous and I have written the company . Has anyone else had this problem ?

Has anyone flown with the Recaro ProRide and survived to tell the tale? I’ll be traveling _alone_ with my 1 year old. He’ll need a car seat on the plane and for the 10 days that we’re away. I would feel more secure with him in his Recaro than in a lightweight seat, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to get baby, bags, stroller and car seat through the airport. Thanks.
