How to Keep Your Heart Healthy

This is a sponsored post written by Daily Mom on behalf of The Heart Truth®. All opinions are 100% of Daily Mom.

For over a decade, The Heart Truth program has been constantly striving to make women more aware of the risks connected with heart disease, the #1 killer of women in the US.

Created by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, The Heart Truth has been encouraging women to take care of their heart health, control potential risk factors, and live in a heart-healthy way since 2002. Learn how to help spread awareness and give a gift #FromTheHeart that can help your loved ones lead a better and more heart-healthy life. With one out of four women dying of heart disease in 2013, taking care of your heart and minimizing risk factors has never been as essential for women.Considering that 80% of women between the ages of 40 and 60 have at least one of the risk factors for heart disease to keep in mind, The Heart Truth initiative urges women to prevent heart disease and stroke by controlling high-risk factors known to cause heart disease.

As February is American Heart Month, this makes it the perfect opportunity to reconsider how we live. With that in mind, The Heart Truth this year encourages women to take action and prevent heart disease with its brand new initiative, #FromTheHeart. Taking place across all The Heart Truth’s social media platforms, this is your opportunity to share advice #FromTheHeart, exchange personal stories and aspirational messages, and help women live a more heart-healthy life, make better lifestyle choices and overcome everyday challenges that come with newly adopted changes.

A simple tip and a great way to make exercise part of your day and to minimize the threat of heart disease is to consciously make time for it in your schedule. The best part is you’ll also help reduce your stress levels at the same time! Perhaps you’re not attracted to the idea of going to the gym or maybe you just don’t have that kind of time. So why not take 20 minutes every day to do some bodyweight exercises at home or take your kids for a walk in your nearest park every other day? That way you get some physical activity every week and you also make sure to take a break from all the things that get you worried or stressed out. Try adding a little variation to your schedule, and you’ll see that simple and easy tips #FromTheHeart can, in fact, make a dramatic change for the better and help you prevent heart disease, too.

Support The Heart Truth’s initiative this month and share your own advice and tips #FromTheHeart on how to improve and form better daily habits for a healthy heart. Invite your friends and loved ones to a heart-healthy meal #FromTheHeart, ask them to join you for a walk in the park, accompany you to a yoga session, or simply relax and enjoy a movie marathon without worrying about anything else other than having a great time. Give them a gift #FromTheHeart by engaging in a heart-to-heart conversation over a heart-healthy, home-cooked meal or by offering tips that have helped you take steps toward a healthier life. Advice #FromTheHeart will be shared all throughout February and the Gifts #FromTheHeart will be shared during the week of Valentine’s Day on The Heart Truth’s social media channels.
