Messy hair is in, but that doesn’t mean that you should run out of the house with bed head. Instead, why not try your hand at the “beach wave”? What? You don’t live at the beach? No worries!
While this simple look can be achieved with a curling iron or a straightener, today we’ll walk you through 7 easy steps to mastering the beach wave at home with your curling iron. Once you get the hang of it, the perfect beach wave is easy peasy.
The most important thing about creating the perfect beach wave is the barrel size of your curling iron. You want a curling iron that is 1.5 or 2 inches. This will give you the perfect messy, day at the beach hair. Get your iron out, plug it in and you are ready to go.
If you don’t already own a 1.5 or 2 inch curling iron, we recommend this Conair 1.5 inch curling iron. With this curling iron, creating the perfect beach wave is easy because:
- It makes it easy to hold your hair in place with the full length clip.
- Doesn’t require a glove, like most of the new age wands.
- Creates loose flowing curls.
1. Start with a small section of hair.
Specifically, start with a little over an inch section of hair. We like to start with the hair around our face. Place your curling iron at the root and pull down a few inches and wrap the hair. Hold for a few seconds.
Continue to pull the iron towards the ends of your hair a few inches at a time while wrapping the hair around the wand.
3. For a more relaxed look…
As you get to the ends of your hair, leave the last inch or so out. This will give your hair a more relaxed look.
4. Alternate the Direction.
Continue with the rest of your hair, alternating the direction that you start the curl every couple times.
5. Loosen the Curl.
When finished, brush your fingers through your hair. This will loosen the curl.
6. Add Sea Salt Spray.
Finally add a Sea Salt spray to the ends, fluff and run your fingers through your hair one more time.
7. Struggling with Frizz?
If you find you are having a bit of a struggle with frizz take a lightweight hairspray and apply while smoothing out the frizz with your fingers.
This is a really easy way to create the perfect wave without trying to master a straightening iron which can sometimes cause kinks and uneven curls. Also, if you are short on time you can use bigger sections of hair and have a little bit of a looser wave and take a few minutes less to finish.
