Stroller Guide: Compact Luxury with Pockit by GB

When’s the last time you looked in the back of your car and all you could think of was how much stuff comes along with having kids? Between the diaper bag, the toys, odds and ends strewn across your car floor, a stroller, and the countless other extras that you aren’t quite sure how they made their way in there – the truth is that having little kids means stuff just seems to multiply and extra space seems to rapidly decline. Do you remember the days of a clean back seat or a non-stop flight with one small carry on bag? Children are certainly precious bundles of joy, but they definitely come with their share of bulky baggage. There are so many amazing companies out there that are on a mission to simplify parent’s lives and lighten their load, literally. Anatomy 101: Big Words for Little People

When you have your first child something strange happens to your use of language. Your voice goes higher. You start adding -y’s to the end of your words. You make silly sounds and you make up ridiculous nicknames to call your baby. Your voice goes into singsong mode and you can’t seem to make it stop. But is all this baby talk good for the language development of your child?

The latest research says yes – extending your vowel sounds and making your sentences into more of a song help a child develop their own language skills. The caveat? You should still be using real words – not made up, nonsensical words. One of the most common areas of discussion that parents like to use euphemisms for when speaking to their children are body parts. Many parents feel uncomfortable using the formal terminology when discussing a person’s most private areas, but experts say that isn’t the way to go.

5 Ways You’re Unknowingly Crushing Your Child’s Spirit

As parents, it is your job to raise your children to be independent, thoughtful, intelligent adults. You are given the gift of these beautiful, innocent human beings. These precious lives are placed into your hands – completely pure – like blank pages in a freshly bound book. From the very first moment you look into their eyes, you vow to them – and to yourself – that you are going to love them unconditionally, protect them with every fiber of your being, teach them through life experiences, and bring the world to their fingertips in every way you possibly can.

Those first blissful days roll into weeks, and you’re exhausted, but drunk on life and love and the idea that you – YOU – are solely responsible for molding and shaping these little people into who they are going to be when you set them free into the world. It’s a pretty incredibly feeling. And it’s also incredibly frightening…

Venturing into your local baby store can cause a serious case of sticker shock. This time around, go easy on your wallet, but still rest assured that your child will be safe and secure while traveling in the car. The COSCO High Back Booster gives you serious bang for your buck, which all moms can appreciate!

Debunking the 5 Second Rule

Picture this: it’s lunchtime, and you just whipped up grilled cheeses, pretzels and ants on a log for your hungry kids. Your 4-year old grabs his plate a little too eagerly… and the food falls everywhere.

You:

  • A. Rapidly place the sandwich, logs and pretzels back on the plate for your kiddo — five second rule!
  • B. Place the pretzels and sandwich back on the plate after dusting them off. The logs, meanwhile, have little fuzzes and specks of dirt on them, so you toss ’em.
  • C. Throw everything away, and remake the entire lunch.
  • D. Remake lunch — as you scarf down the from-the-floor lunch — five, er, fifteen second rule!

You’ve probably heard of the old “five second rule,” and wondered, “Is it valid?” “Is it safe to eat food that’s been on the floor?” Does where the food fall matter? Is food that falls outside safer than food that falls inside? What are the exceptions?

Well, today we’re answering these questions — and more!

I Tried It: The 48 Hour Potty Training Method

My daughter, Mary, will be 3 at the end of November. She’s a strong-willed, stubborn-as-her-mama kind of gal who likes to do things on her own timeline.

For example: Mary started crawling at 5 months. I was shocked, and assumed she’d be able to trick-or-treat with her big brother when she’d be 11 months. Nope. She got really good at crawling; deftly maneuvering across the room on her bottom with her legs propelling her forward (think: ninja-gorilla).
