If you’re thinking about taking a family vacation then look no further than Club Med’s all-inclusive resort in Cancún, Mexico. Club Med’s Cancún Yucatán location is ideal for families looking to get away to a tropical paradise. With an intimate atmosphere, brand new family suites, programs for kids as young as 2 (babies are welcome too!), beautiful vistas, and a large menu of activities, you and your family can create the perfect day every day of your vacation.

Club Med Cancún Yucatán

If you’ve never experienced an all-inclusive resort before, then getting away to a Club Med with your family is the perfect time to experience everything an all-inclusive has to offer. There’s no worrying about logistics or going over budget, so you can focus on relaxing and re-connecting with your family. If you’ve experienced a Club Med before then you’re familiar with its concept of a village and the convivial atmosphere created by the village’s staff—the “GOs” (“gentils organisateurs” or “gracious organizers”). You also know that the variety of activities and entertainment offered all within the village is great for families, and Club Med’s Cancún location is no exception.

With arguably the best location in Cancún, this Club Med village has just added over 60 new family-suites that offer the kids their own separate room. The new Petit Club Med means the village accommodates toddlers as young as 2 (babies are still of course welcome and babysitting services are available). Adults and children alike will love the variety of the water sports—including water skiing, windsurfing, snorkeling, and more. A new Argentinian grill house offers a formal dining experience while two other restaurants offer equally delicious fare buffet-style. Check out the highlights and a slideshow of this beautiful village below.

Club Med has always been committed to including the entire family, with the first program for children being established in the 60’s. It continues to make it easy to vacation together as a family with a special kids pricing policy: kids under 4 stay free, ages 4-12 receives 50% off packages, and 13-15 40% off.

The Club Med village in Cancún is located on the Yucatán Peninsula and situated right before what has come to be known as the hotel zone on Cancún Island. This narrow strip of land runs 14 miles north to south along the world’s second largest coral reef, separating Nichupté Lagoon on the west from the turquoise blue waters and white sand beaches of the Caribbean sea to the east. The island of Cancún is still romantically known as the gateway to the Mayan World. From Cancún, ancient ruins and other splendors are just a bus ride away.

Club Med is situated at the very bottom of the island where Cancún beach ends. The cove-like beach of Club Med offers crystal-clear calm waters, a white sand beach, and a beautiful view of the hotel zone in the distance. On the village’s west side is a private stretch of beaches home to the aquatic life of the coral reef. A bit further south is where you’ll head for water activities such as windsurfing and sailing. On the other side of the property are deeper blue waters of the lagoon where you can catch beautiful sunsets.

Activities and water sports abound and can be done at your leisure and as much as you or your kids please. For tamer activities such as snorkeling, all you have to do is show up at the hut and claim your equipment, which is complimentary. For other activities such as windsurfing or waterskiing you can book instruction simply by signing up at the appropriate hut. Lessons are offered everyday.

Water activities at Club Med Cancún Yucatán

  • Windsurfing
  • Water Skiing
  • Wakeboarding
  • Sailing
  • Snorkeling
  • Kayaking
  • Deep Sea Fishing (add-on)
  • Scuba diving (add-on)

If you want to squeeze in a traditional workout or just mix it up a bit, there’s a fitness center with cardio and weight equipment as well as classes like Zumba, yoga, and Fitness Crunch. Salsa lessons are also offered during the day and a great way to brush up on steps in preparation for dancing in the evening. Tennis enthusiasts can hit the courts on any of the eight located near the new family suites. But novices and beginners need not be shy—as with so many of the sports at Club Med, expert instructors are on standby to give lessons.

After your workout, some pampering at the spa is the perfect way to relax. Comfort Zone offers an array of massages, scrubs, aromatherapy, and beauty treatments. Tandem rooms are available if you want to get a treatment with your spouse.

No Club Med experience would be complete without flying—on the trapeze that is! At Cancún Yucatán kids and adults alike can experience the thrill that is the flying trapeze, as well as other circus arts such as tightrope, trampoline, and juggling. GOs provide plenty of instruction starting with trapeze basics on the ground and are happy to take things slow if you’re feeling nervous (but when you see 4 year-olds doing it, you’ll realize there’s nothing to be nervous about!). The trapeze even has dedicated times for children and for adults.

Then of course there is the beautiful white sand beach if you want to swim, wade, or just lounge around and soak up some sun. The water is perfect for kids as it’s pretty calm due to being at the very tip of the island where the land forms a cove. Once you’ve had enough sun, you can retreat to one of the canopied cabanas or cushy chaises while your kids join in some beach soccer or volleyball with the GOs. If your family prefers the pool, the main pool is located adjacent to the beach and offers nets for water basketball and organized polo games.

Club Med Cancún offers a variety of room options for families of any size from deluxe rooms to luxury suites to the new family suites that offer a separate kids room! The guest buildings are named after semi-precious stones such as Jade, Opalo, Ambar, and Obsidiana. It’s hard to go wrong when choosing where to stay, but perhaps the prime location for families to stay is in the newest set of family suites of the oceanfront Aguamarina.

The new family suites in Aguamarina come in two flavors, Family Club Rooms (538 sq ft) and Family Deluxe Rooms (678 sq ft). Each can accommodate a family of 6 and features two separate rooms. The master bedroom contains a king-sized bed as well as a sofa bed. In the second room are two twin beds. Each type of room has a half bath in the hallway, while the Family Club Room has a large bathroom complete with a shower and a tub. The Family Deluxe Rooms have a full bathroom with tub in the “kids room”, while the other bathroom next to the master bedroom has a bathroom with a shower.

Suites feature spacious balconies complete with inviting couches perfect for lounging together and ground-floor suites have direct access to cabanas or loungers set among palm trees and beautifully manicured lawns.

Jade Villa is another beautiful place stay with your family. Jade is a 5 trident (star) luxury villa within the village, a resort within the resort. These elegant and spacious suites offer all the amenities of an upscale hotel with special services such as room service, dedicated porter service, and complimentary internet access. Several suites even feature connecting children’s rooms. Guests of Jade also have exclusive access to the infinity pool, a pool bar, and private ocean-front cabanas. Jade is set among trees and foliage and offers a secluded getaway from busy activities of the resort, making it perfect place for grandparents or other adult family members to stay.

Babies & Toddlers

All the gear you’ll need for your baby can be requested and ready for your arrival (crib, baby bath, changing table, high chair, bottle warmer, stroller, and even a potty). A “Baby Corner” in the main restaurant, La Hacienda, stocks food for babies and a place to prepare anything you’ve brought along. Additionally, the restaurant has an early family dining time, 1/2 hour before normal opening.

For toddlers, Club Med Cancún has recently established Petit Club Med, a program for children 2-3. You can drop off your little ones anytime from 9-5:30 on Sundays-Fridays. While you take some time with your spouse, your little ones can partake in petit sports or swimming, arts and crafts, dress-up, and games lead by the GOs. In the evenings they can enjoy sing-a-longs and story-time.

The Petit Club facilities are wonderfully designed with young guests in mind. Outside, there is a shaded pool surrounded by grass (no itchy sand getting in those swim diapers). Inside activities, crafts, and toys occupy several play rooms with fun murals on the wall. The bathrooms contain petite toilets for toddlers who are potty trained and all the door hinges are covered to protect little fingers from getting pinched. The changing room even has a built-in, pull-out step stool for kids to reach the sink on their own (with supervision from the GOs, of course). The nap time room is painted a subdued blue with heavy drapes and low-to-the-ground toddler beds, so your little one can get in some R&R too!

Cancun Yucatán also has Mini Club Med for children 4 to 10-years-old everyday from 9:30am-9pm (with a one-hour break at dinner time). In Mini Club Med, kids partake in fun activities led by expert GOs in things like soccer, tennis, Zumba, beach activities, cooking, and circus. Kids as young as 4 can take part in the circus school and there’s even a special Petit Circus program for 4 to 6-year-olds. GOs also run nature expeditions for kids to explore the village’s flora and fauna.

The new playground and kids miniature golf course is a great place to hang out with your children. Children and even toddlers learning to walk will appreciate the grassy soft-turf that surrounds the swing and jungle gym. The playground is located right next to the new family suites of Aguamarina, and literally a stone’s throw away from Las Cazuela’s restaurant.

If you’d like a full evening without the kids, a Pyjama Club is run in the evenings from 7pm until about midnight! Children 4 to 10-years-old can participate in low-key entertainment. This program is only an additional $25 per night/per child, which is quite a steal for 5 hours!

Apart from Club Med’s programs, in-room babysitting services are also available from an outside company. The main reception can help you arrange babysitting which caters to ages 4 months to 7 years. Babysitters can be hired for around $17-18USD per hour.

Tweens & Teens

Older kids can participate in much of the same activities as parents, such as water skiing, windsurfing, and wakeboarding. When your teen is ready for some adventure without mom and dad, they can take lessons with GOs in many of the water activities and sports. Afterwards you can take your children to Comfort Zone for spa treatments especially for teens. Teens can also participate in Club Med’s Passworld, a program for 11 to 17-year-olds (call ahead to see if it will be offered when you’re there). Kids are welcome to come and go as they please or hang out in the teen’s lounge-area. Many teens report that the best part of the program is meeting and making new friends.

Club Med Cancún Yucatán has 3 restaurants that provide plenty of (delicious) options for everyone’s palette and schedule. All three serve breakfast through dinner with staggered schedules so there’s always something open. With your wristband, you and the family can pop in anytime for just a snack or for a sit-down meal. The all-inclusive package includes an open bar for adults as well.

La Hacienda is located at the heart of the resort. Food is served buffet-style and includes both international foods as well as local Mexican dishes (we guarantee you’ll be spoiled for choice!). A baby corner offers some foods sure to satisfy little tummies and also a place for parents to prepare food they bring. The restaurant also opens a half hour early at dinner for guests with children.

La Hacienda has the largest seating capacity and perhaps the most beautiful interior—each of the five dining rooms has it’s own theme and decor. You can also dine on the outdoor terrace which overlooks the pool. Wherever you choose to dine, when you sit down a waiter will come to take drink orders. A selection of wine and beer is available and cocktails can be brought up from the bar below.

Las Cazuelas restaurant boasts perhaps the most beautiful architecture. The restaurant is built on stilts and dons a thatched roof. Las Cazuelas is conveniently located nearby the new family suites of Aguamarina and overlooks the water. Breakfast and lunch feature local dishes buffet-style while dinner features festive Mexican cuisine. And don’t forget to try Club Med’s famous White Chocolate bread which makes a great dessert or even a decadent-but-light breakfast.

Club Med’s newest restaurant, La Estancia, is the most-formal restaurant, offering menu and waiter service. The restaurant features bold decor with cacti adorning the tables while a huge glass window lets you watch chefs prepare dishes to perfection. This elegant restaurant is the choice for a date night. Kids are also of course welcome at the restaurant, so be sure to dine there at least once as a family so that everyone gets a chance to sample the delicious creme brûlée and crepes.

Soluna Bar is located near the main pool and offers the perfect place to retreat from the sun during the day. Parents can sip a refreshing cocktail and lounge in the portico while keeping an eye on older kids, and children can kickback on the comfy couches with a non-alcoholic piña colada. The open-air bar Las Velas is also conveniently located in between the main pool and beach. Las Cazuelas restaurant also has a bar and is perfect when you and your family want to take in some fresh night air while being away from the activity. Drinks are included as part of your all-inclusive package, so there’s no worrying about going over budget. (All non-alcoholic drinks are included as well as cocktails, wines, and local or international alcohol brands. A few top-shelf brands can be ordered easily with your room card).

Club Med Cancún offers evening and night entertainment every day of the week. Parents and children can enjoy the shows put on in the newly renovated Maya Lounge which functions as a lounge, bar, and nightclub and features a variety of performances from music and comedy sketches put on by the village GOs to professional musicians and dancers.

Parties usually take place in the center of the village near Soluna Bar and on any given night can involve live music & dancing, circus shows, fireworks, or themed-nights. If your children participate in the kids clubs, special activities are planned for each evening and include things like a kids’ circus show at the end of the week. Children together with the club GOs also put on a talent show for parents and guests and is a lot of fun for everyone.

No visit to the Yucatán peninsula would be complete without a visit to one of the many ancient Mayan sites or natural wonders of the area. You can book tours through the club or staff at reception can assist you in booking other tours. Some of the best excursions include: Mayan archeological sites Chichen Itza or Tulum; a boat trip to the beautiful Isla Mujeres; or a visit to one of the thousands of cenotes, sinkholes or underground rivers. Older kids and teens as well as adults will also enjoy the excursions to swim with sea turtles and dolphins.

With so many activities to choose from, new family-friendly accommodations, kids programs, babysitting, and delicious food–all set within a tropical paradise–Club Med’s all-inclusive village in beautiful Cancún is the perfect place to relax and reconnect with your family.
