New Mom Hair Care

Ahhh – the joys and complexities of new motherhood! On one hand, you have never been more in love; on the other hand, you have also never been more sleep deprived or fatigued. You likely take great pains to make sure your little one looks like an absolute sweet angel at all times, while neglecting even the most basic self-care needs for yourself. And even after the all-consuming newborn months, those first couple years caring for baby and a growing toddler, will still leave little time to fuss too much on your own appearance. But let’s be honest, when we look good, we feel good, so no need to completely ignore your own beauty routine. Instead, my advice to new moms and moms of little ones is to simplify! Below are just a few “new mom hair hacks” that will save you time, and help you look and feel your best.

1. Find a haircut you can style in under 15 minutes. For naturally wavy to curly hair, a short layered cut like a modern shag works great to give you natural movement and texture. Bangs also add some instant chicness and hide tired puffy eyes even if the rest of your hair is just thrown up in a messy bun.

2. A great look that is also very on trend right now and universally flattering are balayage highlights. They grow out soft and last longer than traditional highlights which equals less maintenance.

3. Keep a dry shampoo on hand that you can use in between washes to keep hair looking fresh. My faves are Rene Furterer which offers a fresh clean scent with no heavy residue, and Evo which has an amazing smell and goes on clear with a little hold as well.

4. Stock up on essential accessories like scarves, clips, and bobby pins to help with cute and quick updos – great for keeping hair away from sneaky little fingers that love to pull on mama’s hair. These are also must-haves for your diaper bag for any last-minute hair saves on the go!
