Buying Organic: CostCo Edition

Organic and “big box” stores are not often used in the same sentence. CostCo is a well-known bulk grocery and home goods chain, but did you know that they offer a wide variety of affordable and organic grocery items?

Costco

Many people  associate organic foods with expensive. Choosing to buy your organic items in bulk is one way that you can still reap the benefits of keeping your foods pesticide-free, without breaking the bank. With a little extra planning, you can easily incorporate these bulk food sizes into your weekly meals. Sure, it may mean buying several pounds of chicken breast at a time, but meats, dairy, and even bread, can easily be portioned off, frozen, and kept at their freshest for use at another time.

Not only does CostCo carry a wide range of organic groceries, but they also carry a number of other home goods products with both the environment and your health in mind. For example, several of their stores carry hair and body care products that are sulfate and paraben free. They also offer phosphate-free dish detergent and laundry soaps without 1,4-dioxane, and they many times even carry organic cotton pajamas for your little ones. Product selection does vary by store and region, but some of their more popular home goods and health products are available for online purchase.
