There are twelve Astrological Signs of the Zodiac, each sharing a name with one of the many constellations in our galaxy. These signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. According to Sun Sign Astrology, the position of the Sun in the sky on the date of a person’s birth places them within one of the twelve Astrological Signs of the Zodiac. Branching off from the basis of Astrology, that celestial phenomenon (things happening in space), influence terrestrial phenomenon (things happening here on Earth), the Astrological Signs of the Zodiac people are born under influences their personality and behaviors.

The dictionary definition of a meme is “an element of a culture or system of behavior that may be considered to be passed from one individual to another by non-genetic means, especially imitation” OR “a humorous image, video, piece of text, etc., that is copied (often with slight variations) and spread rapidly by Internet users.” While the second definition is the more obvious and prevalent in our everyday lives online, it could be argued that Astrological Signs of the Zodiac are an ultimate example of the former. Why not take the silliness and fun of the internet meme to contextualize the Astrological Signs of the Zodiac of Western Culture as they have been passed down through the ages.

Aries (The Ram) March 21 – April 19

The primary characteristics of an Aries are that they are eager, dynamic, quick and competitive. When browsing “Aries Memes”, one could get the impression that they are also not afraid to do whatever it takes to win, even if they’re the only ones playing.

Taurus (The Bull) April 20 – May 20

The primary characteristics of a Taurus are that they are strong, dependable, sensual and creative. Search results for “Taurus Memes” also suggest that they are often preoccupied with good food and saving money, which sometimes puts them in a pickle.

Gemini (The Twins) May 21 – June 20

The primary characteristics of a Gemini are that they are versatile, expressive, curious and kind. Google image results for “Gemini Memes” returns a number of results suggest they are the Sour Patch Kids of people, if not just a little unpredictable.

Cancer (The Crab) June 21 – July 22

The primary characteristics of a Cancer are that they are intuitive, sentimental, compassionate and protective. According to many of the “Cancer Memes” out there, they can also be super emotional.

Leo (The Lion) July 23 – August 22

The primary characteristics of a Leo are that they are dramatic, outgoing, fiery and self-assured. Many, many “Leo Memes” also suggest that they have a tendency to be loud and over-the-top… which sometimes gets them into trouble.

Virgo (The Maiden) August 23 – September 22

The primary characteristics of a Virgo are that they are practical, loyal, gentle and analytical. Google image results for “Virgo Memes” imply that they tend to be extra intelligent but also judgemental.

Libra (The Scales) September 23 – October 22

The primary characteristics of a Libra are that they are social, fair-minded, diplomatic and gracious. Many “Libra Memes” claim they can be a bit manipulative but also eager to please.

Scorpio (The Scorpion) October 23 – November 21

The primary characteristics of a Scorpio are that they are passionate, stubborn, resourceful and brave. Google image results for “Scorpio Memes” imply that Scorpios can run a real mean streak and hold grudges.

Sagittarius (The Archer) November 22 – December 21

The primary characteristics of a Sagittarius are that they are extroverted, optimistic, funny and generous. Most “Sagittarius Memes” show them as incredibly excitable about new things but also quick to abandon their responsibilities.

Capricorn (The Sea Goat) December 22 – January 19

The primary characteristics of a Capricorn are that they are practical, loyal, gentle and analytical. One quick search for “Capricorn Memes” will show that they are considered to be preoccupied with money and success and emotionally closed-off.

Aquarius (The Water Bearer) January 20 – February 18

The primary characteristics of an Aquarius are that they are deep, imaginative, original and uncompromising. “Aquarius Memes” usually categorize them as quick to involve themselves in the business of others while being, personally, very guarded.

Pisces (The Fish) February 19 – March 20

The primary characteristics of a Pisces are that they are affectionate, empathetic, wise and artistic. The majority of “Pisces Memes” show them as being incredibly emotional and frequently pouring most of their energy into people who are bound to hurt them.

Weather you are a true believer that the behaviors of celestial objects truly influence the behaviors of sentient terrestrial ones or not, the ability to find humor in the universe and yourself is out of this world. No matter your Astrological Sign of the Zodiac, you are bound to identify, if not get a laugh from, some of the memes above. Even though each individual human is super complex, we all share the experience of being a person in and of the world we share. One brilliant side-effect of examining your own personality, as framed by your star sign or otherwise, is that you take time to consider your own strengths and faults. If that leads to you working on yourself, giving others the benefit of the doubt or realizing you are perfect just as you are, it’s a win!
