It’s swimsuit season, usually a dreaded time for women everywhere, except for the ones whose bodies we ogle over, whose Instagram pictures we stare at until our eyes bleed, and those who make us feel like no matter how many hours we put into the gym or how many calories we count we will never amount to their bikini-goddess-role-modelness. What if this summer though, we learn how to embrace the body we’ve been graciously given, we try instead to become healthier rather than 6 pack toned, we enjoy our family and friends instead of living in the pit of gym-hell, and we tell ourselves a few things before getting into our swimsuit that might actually build us up instead of tear us down.

“The art of love… is largely the art of persistence.” ~Albert Ellis
There are two very valuable lessons about love that could be a cure for our broken relationships and dissatisfying sex lives: Love does not come made to order; and we must be willing to ask for what we want. These two common misunderstandings about the limits of our relationships can wreak havoc in the development and maturity of many long-term partnerships. Maybe it is the fault of reading too many romantic novels or being brought up in an Ozzie & Harritet-like culture of happily ever after, but the sad and happy truth of real and lasting loving relationships is that we don’t have control over how other people love us. This truth becomes very clear when it’s combined with the belief that other people should know what we feel (or want) from love without having to tell them – and suddenly – the brokenness of our collective love lives.

You’ve probably heard this many times before, yet are you convinced? Did you know adopting this simple habit into your morning routine can have ultimate benefits as you age?

Being a mama is hard, no matter what. Whether you are a working mom and it’s the weekend or a stay at home mom, being home all day with the kids can be trying, even for the most creative mothers. On these long days where there is little reprieve from the chores, whining, crying or running around, small things can start to snowball into bigger ones and suddenly a good day can become a rotten one. Trying to balance kids, homework, soccer practices, swimming lessons, playdates, and work (or if you have babies- the crying, naps, marathon nursing sessions and those piles of dirty diapers) all while keeping a clean house and healthily fed kids can be daunting; then throw in some whining, fighting, crying, messes that just keep appearing and knowing you still need to work out- and that’s a recipe for a meltdown!

As we grow from women into wives and mothers we tend to place ourselves on the back burner, always focusing on the needs of our families, husbands, and kids first. Moms need to realize that WE are important too and WE need to focus on ourselves from time to time. When times get busy, one of the first things to get placed at the end of the list is time for fitness. Whether it is out of scheduling conflicts, exhaustion, or fear of not knowing what to do, some moms tend to not want to start a fitness regimen. Well, we are here to tell you that NOW is the perfect time to get started on the journey to a more fit life.
Are you craving some good old-fashioned family fun? Well pack up the video games, turn off the TV and look no further than your backyard. As the weather warms up, so does the desire to be outside. Family game night is a wonderful tradition to have with your kids and one that they will remember as they grow up and have their own little broods. It is a wonderful opportunity to build and connect with one another without the distractions of our technology-centred world. These nights can help kids learn important social skills as well, like problem solving, taking turns and the importance of learning how to win and lose appropriately (think: no temper tantrums because big brother won the game and not them). Since the weather is getting nicer, why don’t you consider moving your game night outside?
If your life is anything like ours, it may go something like this: wake up early, already tired from some child waking you up the night before, get the kids off to school, run errands, get some cleaning and laundry done, pick up kids, do homework, plan dinner, play with kids, take them to and from sports, eat dinner, do baths, stories and get them in bed, THEN do the bedtime dance for an hour and then FINALLY sit down to relax. How on earth are we supposed to find time to workout? Sometimes the stars align and you have an hour to yourself to get a workout in…other days you are not as lucky. On those days, sometimes a mini workout WITH your kids is the perfect compromise.
Nursing beyond your child’s first birthday is referred to as Extended Breastfeeding. This is a common, healthy act practiced in many countries. The western world however, may be behind in accepting extended breastfeeding as normal.
