10 Original and Entertaining Christmas Party Games

As the designated gamemaster of any holiday party, whether for work or a family get-together, you’re likely searching for fun and original Christmas party games to bring your guests together. There are a number of Christmas party games played year-after-year that guests can spot a mile away. Rather than bore you with the same old list, Daily Mom searched high and low for 10 original Christmas party games that will entertain and delight during the most wonderful time of the year.

The Christmas party games selected for this list meet certain criteria to ensure that they appeal to the broadest audience possible. Considerations such as, is the game easy to play? As in, there are no special skills required. Are the games relatively free? Meaning, they do not require a store-bought game set. Most of the games on this list enlist active participation, and some might even be considered an ice breaker, although guests may not know it. And, finally, are the games original?

How Many Ornaments on the Tree?

This game sets a low bar for participation but is a great way to get the party started. As guests enter the room, provide a paper and pen so they can take a guess at how many ornaments are on the Christmas tree. This kind of party game is kind of like guessing how many candies are in a jar but in total holiday fashion. Don’t forget to announce the winner at the end of the party.

Left-Right Game

Christmas party games like the Left-Right Game are great for getting people to interact with one another. Especially, those who arrive without a plus one. This game can be played with white elephant gifts or you can distribute candy canes (one per table or a few within a larger group). Using a poem or story pre-loaded with the gratuitous mentions of left or right, party guests either pass their white elephant gift or candy cane to the left or right until the story stops. In the case of the white elephant, whichever gift you have when the story stops is yours to open. In the case of the candy cane, whoever has it when the story stops wins a prize from the party host.

Face the Christmas Cookie

One of the simplest Christmas party games around, all that’s required is a Christmas Cookie and a willing party guest. The guest places the cookie on their forehead and using just their facial muscles, wriggles it down their face and into their mouth, without aid from their hands. The first one to successfully eat that cookie wins.

Jingle Bell Toss

The Jingle Bell Toss is a mash-up of your favorite college dorm and Christmas party games. Start by arranging red and green Solo cups in a pyramid formation at either end of a table (It helps to weight down the cups with a non-liquid or glue-gunning the cups to a board to prevent them from knocking over). Then, teams have to toss jingle bells into each of the cups on the opposite side of the table. The first team to successfully fill each cup with a jungle bell wins!

Two Truths and a Lie: Christmas Edition

Two Truths and a Lie is another college game worthy of a holiday makeover. Christmas Party games like this are a great way to get everyone laughing while sharing a little bit about themselves. For those who don’t know how to play, for each question guests share 3 responses to each question. Just like the name of the game, two of the responses are grounded in truth and one is grounded in a lie. Those who can spot the lie earn a point! Tally up those points at the end so the party host can give out door prizes.

Here are sample Two Truths and a Lie questions for a Christmas edition party game:

  • The worst Christmas gift you ever received?
  • The most embarrassing Christmas party moment in your life
  • The most outrageous thing you’ve ever done on Christmas?
  • The craziest thing that’s ever happened to you on Christmas or New Years?

Jingle In the Trunk

Jingle In the Trunk is the time to shake what your momma gave ya! For this game, guests strap an empty tissue box around their waist, with the box opening face out. The tissue box has 10 jingle bells inside and the goal of the game is to jump, shake, and move around until all the bells fall out. Give participants a minute to jingle those bells out and pair it with some upbeat holiday tunes to level up the fun.

Jingle Bell Jam

This has got to be one of the easiest, low-key Christmas party games on this list, but still lots of fun to play. For the game, you need to wrap various size Christmas presents. But, before you do, place an assortment of bells (different quantities and different sizes) in each box. Don’t forget to label or keep an inventory of how many bells are in each of the differently wrapped presents. Guests then have to jiggle and shake the boxes and guess how many bells are in each box. Or, they can be tasked with lining up the boxes according to which ones have the most jingle bells down to the least.

The Nutstacker

The Nutstacker is a minute-to-win-it style game. Using chopsticks, guests have to stack metal nuts (on the vertical side of the nut), with the goal of creating the tallest tower of nuts possible within 60 seconds. To make it festive, spray paint the nuts red and green since these are Christmas party games, after-all.

Jingle Bell Races

All you need for this Christmas game are some straws (opt for paper ones if you’re eco-conscious) and some mini jingle bells. Using non-marking tape, mark out a start and finish line at either end of a table. Guests can play as individuals or in groups. The Jingle Bell Races game requires that each contestant blow through the straw to move the jingle bell from the start to the finish line. The first person or team to complete the feat wins!
