Oatmeal is Moisturizing

Oatmeal alone does not moisturize the skin, but it is a very beneficial component when making at home face masks. Oatmeal is a humectant. This means that it helps the skin retain any moisture added to it. When combined with skin hydrating ingredients such as coconut oil or other moisturizers, skin can take on a more glowing and dewy appearance.

Oatmeal is a Great Exfoliant

The coarse texture of the oatmeal makes it a great exfoliant. Exfoliating sloughs away dry skin and dead skin cells. In turn, skin looks more fresh and healthy. When using oatmeal as an exfoliant, new skin growth is encouraged by the amino acids and the extra moisture provided by the ingredients in the oatmeal. This gives the skin a more vibrant, younger look.
