For those of you who enjoy watching DIY videos, Daich Coatings has its own YouTube channel filled with videos that will help you resurface your home inside and out. Just in case you don’t have the time to watch the videos, we’re going to take you step-by-step through the super easy process of using Daich Coatings on your patio.

Daich Coatings For Your Patio

For so many people, the front and backyard are a constant HOA reminder about weeding and lawn mowing. Daich Coatings gives us a happier reason to love our backyard. The Daich SpreadRock Granite Stone Coating is the ideal investment for your patio needs. It’s made with real stones and is: heat and cold resistant, water-resistant, and offers superior traction that will help significantly reduce slips and falls. This Daich coating is available in seven colors and will cover approximately 60 square feet per gallon, per coat.

Because the Granite Stone Coating is made from real stone, actual coverage might vary depending on how thick it’s applied. Also, if the surface you’re covering is rough with a lot of pits, that could affect how much SpreadRock you’ll need. That’s why Daich Coatings recommends buyers purchase 20% – 25% more than what you think you’ll need. There is a chart available on Daich Coatings that provides customers with an estimate on how much SpreadRock they’ll need. For example, if you need to cover an area of 100 square feet, you’ll need at least a five-gallon bucket of SpreadRock.

Our favorite quality about the SpreadRock is that it’s easy to use in only a few steps. We know this because we watched the video and we’re sharing those steps here!

First, you’ll need to clean your cement patio, thoroughly

Using a pressure washer is ideal as you’ll want to make sure all the dirt and grime hidden inside the cement’s pores are removed before beginning. Daich Coatings recommends using a pressure washer with 2000 PSI and their Concrete Cleaner & Etcher.

Allow the concrete to dry and then apply the Textured Primer.

The primer is available in five colors and can be purchased in either a one-gallon or five-gallon bucket. For a 100 square foot project, Daich Coatings estimates customers will need a one-gallon bucket. The primer is an exciting product offered by Daich Coatings for a couple of reasons. First, it has a slip-resistant texture that will transfer through the topcoat, providing extra traction. It’s also freeze-thaw resistant, breathable – allowing moisture to escape – and crack resistant. The primer will take about 30 minutes to dry in most cases. If you would like to create a tiled effect on the patio, purchase the Grout Line Stencil Tape and apply it after the primer has dried.

Apply the Daich SpreadRock Granite Stone Coating.

Once the primer has dried, the fun begins! The SpreadRock comes pre-mixed but you will need to stir it well before applying. Daich Coatings recommends using their Drill Mixer for this step.

The SpreadRock can be applied using either a pool trowel or a squeegee trowel. If using a pool trowel, be sure to hold it at a 20° – 30° angle and press firmly. For anyone who has a difficult time working on their knees, the squeegee trowel might be the better option. Just make sure you press firmly when spreading the coating. Let the first coat dry for 4-6 hours before applying the second coat. If you choose to use the Grout Line Stencil Tape, you will need to remove it after the second coat dries. Let the second coat dry for 24 hours.

Apply the TracSafe Anti-Slip Sealer.

New to the Daich Coatings family is the TracSafe Anti-Slip Sealer and we think it’s awesome! TracSafe Anti-Slip Sealer can be used as a topcoat for any of the stone coatings. It can also be used on pool decks as well inside your shower! Other surfaces include paving stones, pre-painted concrete and wood, ceramic tile, vinyl, and linoleum.

For application on a Daich Stone Coating, make sure to sweep away any dirt or foreign objects first. Allow the surface area to fully dry for at least 24 hours before applying. Allow the surface to cure for an additional 24 hours before walking on it. A one-gallon bucket will cover between 350 and 450 square feet per coat. Daich Coatings recommends using two coats.

Enjoy the view!

In four easy steps, you’ll turn your boring concrete patio into a colorful, textured platform. Rather than worrying about whether or not to head outdoors this summer, you’ll love living in the outdoor space you’ve now created. The only question will be when to plan your first barbeque!
