Think being pregnant this Halloween puts a damper on your costume choices? Au contraire–use your bump as inspiration for your costume. Read on below for some fun ideas to dress for Halloween.
Announce Your Pregnancy With Your Costume
If you don’t yet have much of a bump, you can use your Halloween costume to make your announcement. Go with something subtle, like a “mummy”. We love this mummy costume Jessica Simpson rocked when she was pregnant! You can also go with a costume that’s not-so-subtle, such as a costume that’s a can of “Preggo” sauce. Or go crazy with a huge “bun in the oven” costume.

Dress Just Your Bump
A baby bump can actually make dressing up easier. You can just make your bump the center of attention. You can get really creative, like the Angry Birds baby bump costume below. You can also opt for simplicity and comfort with a Halloween-themed maternity shirt. Check out the great selection of shirts from this Etsy seller.
You can also easily make any Halloween T-shirt for your bump by printing out a design on transfer paper and ironing it onto a plain shirt. Try Halloween objects and fun text like a pumpkin and “Mommy’s Little Pumpkin” or if your bump is big enough “Oops, I Swallowed A Pumpkin Seed”. Or find a cartoon mummy and “Mummy-To-Be.”

Parody Costumes
If you want to go all out and get dressed up, there are a ton of funny costumes to choose from:
- A pregnant Juno
- A pregnant nun
- A hill billy with a beer gut
- A “shotgun” bride
Paint Your Belly
If you live somewhere warm enough, and your belly is big enough, you can also make your belly the focus of your costume by painting it. Our favorite is a belly painted up like a pumpkin or jack-o-lantern. But you can also paint your belly as any round object–like a watermelon (or whatever size fruit baby matches that week), magic 8-ball, the earth, disco ball, or a basketball. Or just paint any cool, creative design on your belly.
DIY Body Paint
You should be careful of the body paint you use while pregnant. Making your own body paint out of face cream is easy! Try out the recipe below:
- 2 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon cold cream
- 1 teaspoon water
- food coloring
Mix cornstarch and cold cream, then add water and food coloring.
