Springtime is right around the corner, and that gives us the itch to take down our dreary winter décor and replace it with all things pastel, floral and cheerful. This ribbon wreath fits all of those descriptions, plus it’s super affordable and simple to make with absolutely no sewing involved!
Read on to discover how you can make this simple ribbon wreath for less than $15.
Ribbon wreaths are perfect for any holiday or celebration by simply choosing the right color combination of fabrics. Want a 4th of July wreath? Go for red, white and blue tones. Looking for Christmas door décor? Grab some red and green and Christmassy prints. With that in mind, we chose Easter colors for this wreath.
Supplies:
- 5-6 yards of coordinating fabrics cut into 2″x 17.5″ strips
- Good quality sewing scissors
- 4″ Burlap ribbon
- Foam wreath form
Step 1: Choose Your Fabrics
Go to your local craft or fabric store and pick out scrap fabric in coordinating colors and prints. Most craft stores have 1/2 yard fabric cuts for $1. You can choose as little as 4 different fabrics, however we’ve chosen seven, mixing solids with prints in all different shades of spring. You’ll need approximately 5 yards of fabric.
While at the craft store, grab an 18″ foam wreath form.
Step 2: Cut Fabric into Strips
Using good quality sewing scissors, cut the fabric into 2″x 17.5″ strips. If the fabric has a thin white line on the outer edges, be sure to cut those off neatly first.
Tip: Cut a slit into the fabric at 2″ intervals before cutting all the way. That way you’ll have equal sized strips and ensure that it’s a fairly straight cut.
Step 3: Determine Your Pattern
Once all the fabric is trimmed, decide what pattern you’d like to use. We chose to do 4 strips of each print then 3 strips of the solid colors. This way, the prints take center stage.
Step 4: Tie the Strips
Next, simply tie the strips around the wreath form. When the wreath is done, you can leave it as is or you can add a burlap bow. We used a 4″ natural burlap ribbon.
To add extra holiday flair, you can hang the wreath then layer with a festive Easter hanging as seen here. This wooden bunny was found at a craft store at 50% off for less than $8.
When Easter is over, you can simply remove the hanging and keep this wreath up for the rest of spring.
Now that your décor is festive, you can focus on marshmallow chicks, chocolate bunnies, egg hunts and all other springtime fun that Easter brings!
