Is there anything better than sitting out on a gorgeous spring day, with a bucket of sidewalk chalk, and the blank canvas of a driveway? We think not.
And what could be more fun than actually making your own sidewalk chalk paint with your child? It’s the perfect springtime craft to do together as the weather warms up and you’re itching to get outside. It’s as easy as easy can be, and the best part is your hands don’t end up covered in chalk dust, since you’re using paintbrushes to make driveway art!
Here Is What You Need:
- 2 6-cup muffin tins/1 12-cup muffin tin
- 1 1/2 cups of corn starch
- 1 1/2 cups of water
- Food coloring – various colors (we love these vegetable-based, synthetic dye-free colors from India Tree)
Here Is What You Do:
- Mix the water and corn starch together until smooth.
- Divide evenly among the muffin tins.
- Blend 2-3 drops of food coloring in each of the 12 muffin cups, until color is evenly distributed.
Activity Ideas:
- Mix different colors of paint to learn how to make new colors.
- Have your child practice writing his or her name, letters, and numbers.
- Paint various shapes and have your child(ren) seek out specific shapes.
- Play hopscotch or four square.
- Draw silly faces.
- Make a giant tic-tac-toe playing board.
Now grab some paintbrushes or repurposed ketchup/condiment bottles and go to town!
