How To Create A Unique Spa Day At Home

Are you in desperate need of some R & R time? Who isn’t!? With this worldwide pandemic that has us locked inside of our homes, visiting the spa has become questionable, if not impossible. Don’t let the coronavirus outbreak stop you from relaxing and rejuvenating.

Follow along to learn how to treat yourself to a unique spa day at home! This can be really fun to do with mother/daughter, or even a spouse. And remember, it doesn’t have to be an entire day; we are all busy, understandable! So then, make it half-a-day, perhaps even one hour. Do what your schedule allows.

Set the Mood

This is one of the first and most important steps in creating a spa day at home. What do you immediately notice when visiting a spa? The dim/warm lighting, sounds of water and nature, quietness, and the inviting aroma of lavender, or perhaps eucalyptus. All of these components set the stage and right away captivate your energy towards relaxation, allowing you to look forward to peace and serenity.

Pull up your favorite nature sounds. This could be as simple as searching for “spa music” on YouTube on your cell phone. YouTube has amazing ready-made playlists for practically any occasion. With that said, keep the cell phone out of reach; the point is to disconnect from the world and get in tune with your inner being.

The majority of the spa day at home will take place in the bathroom with a tub, so keeping the phone on the counter, out of reach, would be great. And if you do move to a different room, it’s easy to carry the “sounds” with you.

Make sure to gather all of your fluffiest and comfiest items, such as: a robe, slippers, towel(s). For added excitement and soothing benefits, grab your diffuser and add drops of your favorite essential oil. Smells are an important part of setting the mood for a spa day at home. Lavender screams relaxation, while eucalyptus simply screams SPA. Alternatively, if a diffuser is not an option, candles also work wonderfully!

For an extra oomph, grab some flower petals to throw into your soon-to-soak-in warm bath!

Gather Your Skin Care

Making sure you have all of your skincare products within reach before starting your spa day at home will help make the process a lot smoother and relaxing. Some examples of skincare products include:

  • Face and body exfoliator
  • Face masque
  • Face serum
  • Face and body oil
  • Face and body moisturizer
  • Eye cream
  • Lip Balm

Furthermore, you could set up a nice fruit-infused water station with mixed nuts on the side. Warm herbal tea is also lovely either right before starting a spa day at home or right after finishing.

Oh, also very important: make sure to communicate well in advance with your husband, children, or whoever you need to communicate with, that this is YOU time and interruptions are not allowed! Unless you are having someone join you for a spa day at home, you really should be focused on just yourself.

Get To It!

There is no right or wrong way to do this, but the following is a great option.

Assuming you have set the mood and gathered all necessary items, start off by running a warm bath. Make sure the temperature of the water is warm and not hot. Soaking in hot water can cause the body to overheat. When the body is overheated, heart rate can speed up and cause heart palpitations; not a fun feeling and can instantly ruin your perfectly planned spa day at home.

You can throw in flower petals, body oil, or even bath bombs for added benefits.

While soaking in a warm bath, consider using a gentle body exfoliator such as an all-natural sugar scrub or a coffee scrub. Using your hands, rub the scrub into your skin in circular motions. Remember to exfoliate gently, AKA…don’t press the scrub into your skin too roughly. Scrubs are already coarse and need very little pressure during application.

Rinse off the scrub with the warm tub water.

Lay back and soak in the tub for about 15-20 minutes. Some people even like to read a book, but leaning back, closing the eyes and letting your mind rest is the ultimate relaxation.

If you’re a breastfeeding mama that pumps and saves baggies of liquid gold in the freezer, adding a bag of breast milk to your bath will do wonders for your skin! There is no better body moisturizer. Give it a try if it applies to you!

Once the soaking is complete, slip into your fluffy bathrobe and slippers and pat dry the face. At this time, you want to apply your skincare products to your face.

Finish with…

For the face, start off by applying a masque of choice. Applying a masque first thing is important for maximum benefits as your pores are freshly open and the skin will essentially drink up the properties of the masque. You don’t want to apply a masque when the body has cooled down and pores have closed.

While you wait for the masque to dry, find a comfortable place to sit with your feet up, perhaps sipping on your drink and enjoying the mixed nuts while listening to the sounds of nature.

Next, you can wash off the masque with warm water once it has dried, however, it’s best to use a small face cloth run under warm water. Wring out the water from the face cloth and use it to remove the dried face masque. Your face will feel like a baby’s bottom! You can now apply the rest of the skincare to your face.

Remember, the order of products applied to the face do matter. Start off by applying the thinnest consistency products first, such as a serum and ending with the thickest consistency products, such as a face moisturizer. Don’t forget the under-eye cream and lip balm!

Finish the moment by lathering the body up in a yummy body lotion with a smell that will linger for hours. Again, lavender and eucalyptus scents are amazing spa aromas, however, you can also apply a warm vanilla-scented lotion, which is another favorite amongst many.

That wraps up spa day at home! What a wonderful way to relax and rejuvenate in the comfort of your own home.
