A trip to Florida doesn’t have to be a week long, over the top, theme park extravaganza where you go home sun burned and exhausted. Maybe you’ve avoided traveling to Florida because you don’t want to spend your time uncomfortable in a crowded tourist trap. However, not all of Florida is like that. In fact, there are some sweet spots in the sunshine state that offer quiet little weekend getaways. No huge crowds, no theme parks, just beautiful scenery, relaxing destinations, and natural outdoor adventures. Here are seven hidden gems of Florida.
Road trips are one of the best ways to vacation, especially when you’re towing along a couple kids. Whether you’re flying cross country and picking up an RV for a week, or just venturing out your backdoor in the minivan for a long weekend of local adventure, seeing what this country has to offer out the windows of a vehicle is a satisfying experience, for both young and old. We recently road tripped through the state of Arizona, from top to bottom, and along the way found great places to recharge our batteries and refuel our bodies, all with a kid-friendly spin. So whether Arizona is hundreds of miles away or right in your backyard, load up the car and the kids and get road trippin’. Leave the hotel and restaurant recommendations to us!
When was the last time you felt truly relaxed and completely connected with all that is going on around you? Life certainly has a way of taking over. Between work, personal obligations, hauling the kids to sports, birthday parties, and class trips, the list just seems endless. Sometimes, with the monotony and business of day to day responsibilities you start to feel worn down as a person, mother, and wife. Slowing down is a foreign concept to many couples and families, yet it is the most overlooked way to rest and recharge. If you are looking for a getaway, whether just for adults or for the whole family, you simply cannot overlook the Emerson Resort and Spa located in the picturesque Catskills.
This spring break was a bit out of the ordinary for Elena and I (Dani) and our two kiddos. If you’ve been around Daily Mom at all, you know that we have a bad case of wanderlust, especially when it comes to us two. Half of the grand travel gestures we toss around never come to fruition, but this time was different. Elena decided to spend every extra minute she had – and trust me, there are not many extra minutes in this power woman’s day – on planning the perfect kid-friendly, with an educational twist, ten day trip on the other side of the country. Her hard work paid off, and we are currently – I’m literally sitting on the lawn of Tanque Verde Ranch writing this post – traveling through the state of Arizona, soaking in all the sunshine, desert heat, and cowboy facts we can find. Our first leg of the trip landed us in Tucson, at the best dude ranch in Arizona, the Tanque Verde Ranch. We’re pretty okay with just staying here for the whole week, as it’s a western paradise that fulfills us in every way, but our restless souls will ultimately move on tomorrow. So here is our diary entry into these last three days that were spent on an authentic ranch, together with our little cowboy and cowgal, Eli and Lexi.
Spring breaks are like Christmas; every year they come rolling around, whether we’re ready or not. If your typical spring break consists of lounging around the house, plugged into the boredom-busters, listening to the kids fight while you catch up on laundry and Netflix episodes, consider doing something different next year when spring break creeps up on you. If you’re craving a bit of adventure and western flair, whether you live on the East Coast or the West, pack up the cowboy boots and hats, and take the family to a real life dude ranch in beautiful Tucson, Arizona. Tanque Verde Ranch is your answer to a week full of disconnected family bonding time, spent among the most stunning landscapes and wildlife that nature has to offer.
Mazatlán is a wonderful city in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. This resort town located on the Pacific Coast has so much to offer. Mazatlán itself is a very historic town, authentically Mexican, not overly touristy, and has lots of flights (direct) from the continental US and Canada. Believe it or not, you can experience the best of Mazatlán in less than a week. Here is how…
Let’s face it, time away from your kids is a luxury. While we love our children more than life itself, every mama needs a break to breathe and recharge. After a child-free vacation you will return home a better parent. If you haven’t taken a trip without your kids yet, please do everyone in your family a favor and plan a getaway with your partner or with some friends. As winter starts to settle over most of us in the US, our moods drop, our energy levels dissipate, our skin pales, and our hearts start wishing for the warm sun again — at least for those of us who are summer babies and suffer from self-diagnosed seasonal affective disorder. Don’t let the snowbanks and looming months of scarves and earmuffs get you down this year. Escape it all for a week, round up your other winter-weary friends and family, and book a ticket to year-round sunny Turks & Caicos.
When thinking about getting on a plane with two 4 year olds and flying 5 hours across the country just to spend 2 days hiking and then repeat it all over again to get back home, most moms would start hyperventilating. It’s true, preschoolers aren’t the easiest to hang out with in general, then put them in a tin can for hours straight and the resulting nightmare can give anyone a heart attack. Between the why’s and the constant whining and the snacks and having to sit still for 5 hours, you would think that the majority of sane people do not plan short stints across the country. And we say they are missing out!
