As women, we do everything imaginable to repel and ban oil from our hair. We know that too much oil can make our hair look greasy, hang limply, and give our overall appearance a “dirty” look. We use products such as dry shampoo, clarifying shampoo and we wash our hair every morning to keep oil at bay. What is all of this doing to our hair? It is drying the hair shaft, clarifying shampoos with sulfates are stripping the proteins, and we are damaging our hair to the point of breakage and fraying. We don’t want to look oily but we do want healthy hair. What’s a girl to do?
You do need oil in your hair to keep it healthy, moisturize it, keep your scalp from drying and flaking, and to promote growth. Just a few products with natural oils can replace most of the hair products that you already have. So rid yourself of unnecessary products and open up valuable counter real estate by choosing a serum made from natural oils.
Natural Oils for Your Hair
- Argan Oil: Argan oil is a natural, plant-derived oil pressed from an olive-like fruit found only in Morocco.
- Essential Oils: Oils such as lavendar, rosemary and peppermint are a part of the essential oils category. These oils are great for all hair types, especially dry textured hair.
- Marula Oil: Marula oil is pressed from the seeds of the Marula tree fruit, a tree that is found in Madagascar and the southern countries of Africa. This oil contains Vitamin C, antioxidants and oleic acid which contribute to overall health of your skin and body.
- Grapeseed Oil: Grapeseed oil is naturally high in Vitamin E and antioxidants.
- Avocado Oil: Avocado oil is pressed from the flesh of the avocado and contains Vitamins A, D, and E. Avocado oil is reputed to keep free radicals at bay and slow down the effects of aging.
- Almond Oil: Almond oil locks in moisture and repels frizz due to the variety of proteins and vitamins it contains.
So where can you find these oils? We have 3 suggestions for your daily dose of natural oils!
L’Occitane
French company, L’Occitane, boasts 5 essential oils in each product of their Aromachologie collection. This collection includes everything from their Volumizing Mist and Mask to a Relaxing Pillow Mist and even the coveted Repairing shampoo and conditioner.
L’Occitane forms their unique essential oil recipe using 5 key oils: artemisia, sweet orange, mint, pine and rosemary. These oils not only contribute to the fresh and natural scent of their products, but also to the effectiveness that L’Occitane products have in keeping your hair in shape from root to tip. The benefits of the combination of these 5 oils in your hair care products is that they not only help clean your hair by disinfecting bacteria but they soothe itchy and flaky scalps. Shiny strands & a soothed scalp? Sounds like a winning combination to us!
We recommend using the volumizing mask once or twice a week to give your hair the body and volume you desire without caking your hair with various products. Add the volumizing mist before styling everyday for an even more volumizing effect!
Don’t forget to use the repairing oil on your ends before using any heat tools as a protectant. This will help keep your ends from fraying and breaking and will restore damaged ends to their former glory.
Moroccanoil
The powerhouse ingredient in Moroccanoil products is argan oil. Argan oil not only stimulates shine and hydrates your hair, it also nourishes your scalp to repel dryness and flaking. As well, it renews elasticity to strands and reduces frizz by retaining and restoring moisture to your locks.
We love the Moisture Repair shampoo and conditioner for use in the shower. While our beauty experts at Daily Mom do not recommend washing your hair everyday, because there is no substitute for your hair’s natural oil, we do recommend washing your hair with these fresh smelling, hydrating products 3 or 4 times a week.
Consider replacing the Moisture Repair conditioner once or twice a week with the Intense Hydrating Mask to deep condition your hair for extra body, shine, and health.
Lierac
We are pretty sure that you haven’t heard of French brand, Lierac, but after you try it, you will want to spread the word!
Lierac has many amazing cosmetic products, but we want to tell you about their hydrating sensory oil. It is made with the extracts of three flowers, Jasmine, Camellia and Gardenia, along with 4 amazing natural oils: hazelnut, argan, grapeseed and sweet almond. These key ingredients make for a sensuous fragrance and light conditioning of your hair, face, and body. Not only are they great for conditioning but they also infuse your hair with proteins and vitamins and they contain antioxidants that reduce the production and reproduction of free radicals!
A pump or two goes a long way to giving your locks shine and luster. We recommend running a dime-sized amount through damp or towel dried hair, especially if you use heating tools, to protect hair and add a feminine, floral fragrance to your strands.
