Cheddar and Apple Grilled Cheese for a Wholesome, Kid-Friendly Recipe

This post is sponsored by Produce for Kids

As moms, our go-to meal plans can kind of get…boring. Now that the school year has begun and things are getting busy, we find ourselves repeating meals or running through the drive-thru. It’s easy to get into a meal-planning rut, especially as a military spouse. With deployments, training, duty, or plain-old long days we sometimes find ourselves not wanting to make a “real dinner” because the entire family isn’t together, and a kid-friendly recipe that is quick and nutritious is sometimes hard to find.

But one thing that helps bring the family together, even when your service member isn’t there, is a family meal at the dinner table. Experts agree that sitting down to dinner together most nights helps to provide a stable and relatable environment for your kids, especially with the chaos that military life brings.

Together with Produce for Kids, Daily Mom Military is working to end hunger and bring families together during Family Meals Month with select DoD commissaries and Feeding America. Now until October 14th, a simple purchase of avocados from Mexico, New York apples, RealSweet® sweet onions, Rainier Fruit pears, and WYCO Produce peppers and cucumbers during your regular commissary trip gives back to Feeding America.

The Produce for Kids Campaign led us to a simple and kid-friendly recipe using avocados from Mexico and New York apples, both purchased to benefit Feeding America at our local commissary.

This cheddar and apple grilled cheese is a fun twist on one of the most classic kid-friendly recipes. It’s sweet, yet savory flavor is something even the pickiest eaters will like, and it takes only minutes to prepare. You can even make it a little more adventurous for adults (or for adventurous kids) by adding sliced avocados from Mexico and a stone-ground mustard aioli sauce. Check out the recipe below.

You can polish off your meal with cut-up Rainer Fruit pears served with a yogurt dip and WYCO peppers and cucumbers served with a ranch-style dip to make a fully-balanced, quick, and wholesome meal the entire family will enjoy.

Be sure to add avocados from Mexico, New York apples, RealSweet® sweet onions, Rainier Fruit pears, and WYCO Produce peppers and cucumbers to your next commissary run to support Produce for Kids in their Family Meals Month campaign with Feeding America. Your purchase will help feed local families and help end hunger for kids in your area.
