Breastmilk Pancake Recipe

There’s no shortage of research highlighting the nutritional benefits of breast milk but, as they say, all good things come to an end. What do you do if you stop nursing (or your baby starts refusing a bottle) and find yourself with a freezer full of expressed milk? Get creative!

This recipe for Breastmilk Pancakes is quick, easy, and nutritious. It makes a delicious breakfast or snack for older infants and toddlers and is a great way to begin working through your freezer stash of milk.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup breast milk
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 heaping teaspoons coconut oil
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Mix all ingredients together. Drop by tablespoon-full onto a warm skillet. Cook until bubbles form. Flip, repeat, and enjoy!

Possible Variations:

Consider adding any of the following to the basic recipe above. You may need to add a bit more liquid or a bit more flour to compensate. Don’t be afraid to get creative!

  • Almond butter
  • Pureed fruit (mango, apple, banana, pear, etc.)
  • Avocado
  • Chia or sunflower seeds
  • Whole or mashed blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, bananas
  • Whole oats
  • Granola
  • Black beans (pureed)
  • Sweet potato
