Every summer we hear the stories of children who are accidentally left in vehicles by their parents or caregivers, only to be found dead hours later. Every parent believes that such a tragedy will never happen to them – that they would never forget their sleeping child in the car or that exhaustion so deep will never occur to the point that they don’t realize they never stopped to drop their child off at daycare. Yet year after year we hear stories of a too-tired parent who left their little one in a vehicle on a hot summer day – something that all too frequently ends in tragedy.
Hey girl hey! I’m Heather, resident Social Media Manager here at Daily Mom, and one of Daily Mom’s OG’s – I’ve oh-so-proudly been here since day 1! I’m also currently feeding my entrepreneurial spirit as a wellness coach, and doing other little side jobs here and there to help support our family. I have three children, so you can imagine, life is quite busy and chaotic around here (almost as chaotic as trying to get a photo with all three kids looking at the camera and not making a goofy face).
Back to school time can be stressful, and the morning routine is the hardest time of the day for many families, including mine. With all four of my kids headed to school this year (my oldest three will be in elementary school all day, and my youngest in preschool), having a great start to the day has never been more important to me.
Raising children is a full time job. Raising children on top of holding down a part-time job (or jobs!) from home means life is often chaotic, stressful, extremely fast-paced, but all around rewarding. For some, holding down a side job while being a stay at home mom means bringing in extra income needed for day to day life. For others, it’s a form of holding onto one’s self – the part of yourself that holds onto childhood dreams, career aspirations, and passions outside the realm of child-rearing. It’s a part of how we stay whole, and albeit sometimes arguably, sane.
This spring, JPMA, the Juvenile Products Manufacturer Association, put on its first ever baby show. Incredible brands offering the newest and greatest products for babies and young children all came together at the Anaheim Convention Center for a trade show that also included a consumer day! Daily Mom editor, Elena, went there to check out all the exciting innovations happening in the world of prenatal and baby care. She met with so many brands, manufacturers, and designers. She asked the questions we all want to ask. She looked for products that really make life with a baby easier and shared what she found with us. Here are our Editor’s Top Picks from the JPMA 2017 Baby Show.
Back to school shopping as a mom of all girls means we are in constant motion to find the cutest, the hippest, the brightest, and the sparkliest shoes, clothing, and gear stores have to offer. As a self-proclaimed “dress yourself to express yourself” mom, my girls often look like they spent some time in a Frozen-themed glitter factory. And most days, I don’t mind that. But this is the first year that everyone will be in some type of “school” (big kid school and preschool), and I feel like I need to step up my game in the back to school arena. Don’t get me wrong – they will still be rocking dinosaur dresses and cowgirl boots with a bright pink backpack – but at least they will have some of the coolest gear around.
Summer is almost over and a lot of us are finally dreaming about the cooler season of fall. Pumpkin spice everything, boots, scarves, and warm apple cider are just a few of the daily daydreams you may be having as you pack up your inflatable pool and pull out the fire pit. For many places in the United States, fall is one of the few times during the year where everyone actually wants to be outside. And even though you probably spent a fair share of time outside this summer, this time you don’t have to worry about bugs, humidity, or sunburns. Fall is the time to get the kids outside before it gets too cold, so why not create a backyard that both you and the kids (and probably some other kids from the neighborhood) can enjoy before winter cabin fever sets in!
I’ve been mentally preparing myself for this day for years. My oldest child is finally old enough to go to kindergarten.
With so many schooling options in our area, choosing where to send my daughter to school hasn’t been simple. However, I’ve ultimately decided to send my daughter to a public charter school. With that decision, I’m heading into this school year with a much more organized and uniformed approach than I’ve used over the past five years. However, I think it’s safe to say that we are both super excited to see where this year will take us.
We’re suckers for new; new brands, new clothes, new makeup, new babies, new everything. So when a brand new stroller hits the market, we’re all over it, especially when it comes from the holy grail of baby product brands, Cybex. They recently released their new Mios model, and not only is it beautifully and modernly designed, like all of their rave-worthy products, but it’s also fully versatile, warm weather friendly, and a parent’s best friend when it comes to ease of use. Ready to drool some?

As summer approaches, many families begin to plan family vacations. We dream of fun at theme parks, exciting adventures around the country, or a relaxing vacation at the beach. All of those things sound wonderful – in theory – until you realize you have to actually get to the vacation spot before you can enjoy all of those things. And even when you get there, there is the headache of all the gear you have to carry, making sure everyone has snacks (we don’t want any hangry toddlers after all), and generally trying to keep everyone happy, all while making sure you catch brief moments of joy to share on social media so you can prove that you did, indeed, have a good time with your family. Experienced parents know that fun family vacations are do-able if you have the right #lifehacks up your sleeve. Below are some of the best travel tricks and tips for a headache-free family vacation.
The swaddle. It’s been a common practice among parents for hundreds of years, but since the semi-recent changes in sleep recommendations for babies, it’s become even more popular. When experts and doctors alike started the back to sleep initiative in the 1990’s, parents went back to the age old tradition of wrapping babies tightly in hopes of getting some shut eye. And while most babies love a good swaddle, recent news stories have highlighted some of the issues with swaddling – issues that are easily fixed with the correct technique and knowledge of safe swaddling.
