Casemates is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Maastricht. It is an underground network of tunnels used for the storing of guns and cannons throughout the centuries. Maastricht was occupied by several different countries over the past several hundred years, meaning that there was a constant need to protect the city from incoming enemy.
