Is Mother’s Day brunch a special celebration in your home? As families grow and change the opportunities to celebrate change with them. Moms are often so immersed in the day-to-day that taking the time to celebrate the little moments falls from their priority list. Celebrating Mother’s Day with a special brunch that honors the Mom’s in your life is the perfect way to give back to all the ladies who inspire you.
For this Mother’s Day brunch the colors blue and gold were selected to symbolize specific elements of motherhood.
Mother’s Day Brunch Decorations
The color blue is referenced in many phrases such as “blue collar work”, which many moms do; inside and outside the home. We think about “blue chip” stock – again, moms are supposed to be that rock solid person that doesn’t waver when the going gets tough. We think about “royal blue”; that there’s an intrinsic value or noble cause in being a mother that should be celebrated.
There’s a golden quality about being a mother that transcends all cultural backgrounds, across all socio-economic statuses, and bridges the gap between all human beings. There is inherent value in being a mother that doesn’t decrease over time. The wealth of experiences from being a mother can be shared between strangers and friends.
For decorations birds and eggs where used as both symbolic of motherhood and the new beginnings brought by spring. Mother birds are often associated with motherhood. She builds a safe, nesting home for her offspring and shields them from harm. Mother birds supply a constant provision of food to help their young grow. She nurtures each of her children in a self-sacrificing way to ensure their survival. She fulfills her role in a loving and compassionate way.

Mother’s Day Brunch Menu
When hosting a brunch you can either provide all of the dishes for everyone attending, or ask each family in attendance to bring a family favorite. Following the blue and gold theme, we’ve picked a few of our favorite corresponding sweet treats that all your lady friends will enjoy.
Sugar Cookie Birds with Royal Icing
Making the perfect sugar cookies is a skill not many bakers have. If you happen to be a skilled baker you may want to try your hand at some of these allergy free cookie recipes. If you aren’t, no need to worry. Buy store made sugar cookie dough and use bird cookie cutters to cut out birds for your brunch celebration.
Royal icing itself is not typically difficult to make but getting the right consistency is an art. Combine 3 tablespoons of meringue powder with 4 cups of powdered sugar and 5 tablespoons of warm water. Use food coloring to obtain the color and a small icing tip to flood the cookies with icing.
Chow mein nests with egg candies are easy to make and can even be assembled by children! Similar to how rice crispy treats are made, melt together butterscotch, milk chocolate and peanut butter. Add in chow mein noodles and shape into nests. Allow to dry before adding in egg candies. For detailed instructions check out the full recipe on Like Mother Life Daughter.
Egg Cake Pops
Cake pops are one of the easiest recipes to make! Using a regular box of cake mix bake as directed in a rectangular dish. Once the cake has cooled, crumble into a bowl and add a canister of pre-made frosting.
Shape into eggs and dip into melted chocolate. To create the speckled look shown here use crumbled oreo cookies as topped before setting the pops aside to dry.
