Fruit Charcuterie Board Ingredient Ideas

How To Create The Best Fruit Charcuterie Board

Obviously, the first and main ingredient for a fruit charcuterie board is the fruit!  There are also a lot of additional ingredients that go great with a fruit charcuterie board.  First, you should start with in-season fruit, with a variety of colors.  Think bright red strawberries, deep-colored blueberries, bananas, sunshine yellow mangos, etc.  Depending on the season you will want to focus on the fruit that is the freshest and meant for the season you are preparing your fruit charcuterie board.

What type of fruits goes on a charcuterie board-Strawberries are in the grocery stores pretty much year-round but that doesn’t mean they are always in season, this is a great quick reference guide to what fruits are in season.  If there is a fruit that you would really like to have as part of your fruit charcuterie board, you can add it as a dried or freeze-dried fruit.  A simple fruit charcuterie board could have fresh fruit with a dip (yogurt is the best) or if you want to add more here are the best additions for the most elaborate or simple fruit charcuterie board that you might want.

Dried Fruit-Dried fruit adds a bit of sweetness and depth to your fruit charcuterie board.  Our favorites are dates, golden raisins, cranberries

Freeze Dried Fruit-If you have kids, you probably have bought these as an easy-to-suck-on baby food before teeth are fully in.

Dips-Yogurt, honey, sour cream-either plain or mixed with a sweetener for dipping sauce, we love this sour cream fruit dip from Food, freshly whipped cream, nut butter, or Carmel are all great additions as well.

Seeds or nuts-You are designing a fruit charcuterie board. Still, there are plenty of extras that go great with fruit-almonds, cashews, pomegranate seeds, sunflower seeds, or toasted pumpkin seeds for a Halloween-themed fruit charcuterie board.

Cheese-cheese is a great accompaniment to fruit.  You will only want to pick 2-3 cheeses for your fruit charcuterie board, think of a mild soft cheese such as brie, gouda, or blue cheese, and a block of sharp cheese, parmesan, and cheddar pair great with sweet apples.

Bread or Crackers-If you want you can also add some bread or crackers to your board.  Or even a sweet breakfast bread option if you make this for breakfast or brunch.

There are no rules when it comes to creating a fruit charcuterie board, the goal is to have fun and be creative.  If there is something you want to add to your board, then go for it!  Enjoy the process and see what you can come up with for all of your occasions!

How To Assemble A Fruit Charcuterie Board

How To Create The Best Fruit Charcuterie Board

First, select a tray or surface to surface to create your fruit charcuterie board.  You can use a wooden tray, such as a cutting board, serving board, tray of any color, or if you are creating a large enough fruit charcuterie board for a lot of guests you can do it right on top of your counter on parchment paper.

Start by placing the largest items down first and spread them out accordingly.  Place your dips or any items that you have in their own containers sporadically down, you want to make it look uniform but not overly structured.  Then start placing the fruit around, you want to focus on making sure there is color throughout your fruit charcuterie board.  Since fresh fruit is so colorful, this is easy to do, just don’t put the strawberries next to the watermelon, break up the colors so it appeals to the eye more, and keeps them moving.

After you have your most significant items down, sprinkle the accouterments through out-chocolate chips, nuts, and any other fun additions you decided to add.  Finally, decorate your fruit charcuterie board as you wish.  From fresh flowers to fun party enhancements, a little decoration will go a far way.

You can also choose to create your fruit charcuterie board into a shape-Rainbow (use marshmallows or meringues for the clouds), Star-shaped, or if it is theme-based you can shape it into something that matches them.  American Flag for the 4th of July, Memorial Day or Labor Day, a pumpkin or skeleton for Halloween, Birthday Cake, or balloons for a birthday are some fun ideas.
