How I Rescued My Morning Makeup Routine

Every mom dreams of peaceful mornings: a hot cup of coffee, a warm shower, and a relaxing start to her day. For most moms, however, that is rarely the case. Many times we are rushing ourselves out the door with our kids underfoot. Maybe you are a stay-at-home mom whose morning routine consists of hair in a messy bun, yoga pants on, and a quick brush of some makeup and you are out the door. Or you are a working mom who is expected to do more than the bare minimum to get ready each day and need something that is fast, easy, and provides the coverage needed to cover up those tired eyes and less-than-luminous skin.

As a mom of three young girls, I am no exception. In fact, I’m more like the rule. Getting myself ready is usually low on the totem pole of the list of responsibilities I have in the morning, but I still like to have a decent amount of coverage before I head off to take my oldest to preschool or run errands. I want something that is light and easy to put on, looks natural, and helps to make me look fresh instead of the dead-tired exhaustion that I actually feel. That is where BareMinerals Complexion Rescue comes in to help me with my morning routine.

Before: My Crazy Morning Routine

Each morning I try to wake up before my girls in order to get a start to my day. Although it’s hard to crawl out of bed sometimes, I find that doing this helps to make me a better mom throughout the day. This is the time I am able to do things for myself: workout, write, drink a warm cup of coffee before it turns into a cold cup of coffee. It sets my day up with a strong foundation, and I feel like I’m able to conquer my to-do list with a mighty fervor as my kids wake one by one.

But that wasn’t always the case. Once the kids are up is when the chaos would begin. Sometimes I was lucky enough to have enough time to get myself showered and ready while they were still dreaming, but oftentimes I was doing this with my kids underfoot. My oldest girls were often relished to playing in my room on an old yard sale table that was strewn with broken crayons and paper. My youngest was often in her bouncer which lasted all of five minutes before she started fussing to be held. I often would be applying makeup with one hand while the baby tried to swat at anything I was holding. Couple that with playing referee to my two oldest, and I often would go without makeup all together just because the pain of taking ten to fifteen minutes to cover up the bags under my eyes simply wasn’t worth it.

Each day I would walk out the door feeling less than stellar about myself. I would see myself in the rearview mirror as I would pull our huge minivan out of the garage and see how tired I looked. I didn’t like how I felt, and I wanted something to change. I was embarrassed for people to see me. I wanted to make an effort to get myself looking better in order to help myself feel better, but I couldn’t spend so much time in the mornings simply applying makeup. I needed something new.

After: My Zen Morning Routine

I already used a few BareMinerals products in my daily life, so when looking for a clean, fresh foundation that I didn’t have to cake on to cover up my “mom tiredness” I went straight to their products. Coming across their Complexion Rescue was nothing short of a miracle. My old foundation was filled with chemicals and felt heavy. It didn’t look natural, and with three young girls looking up to me each day I wanted a product that didn’t make me look like I was getting ready for a beauty pageant. BareMineral Complexion Rescue stays in line with all other products, in that it is clean and made with the least amount of ingredients possible.

I was anxious to try my new BareMinerals Complexion Rescue foundation after picking it up at one of my favorite beauty stores, Ulta. My three girls were awake abnormally early so I didn’t even have time to get my morning cup of coffee yet, but I was determined to do something for myself before we had to rush off to preschool. I started to put on my makeup, expecting another ten to fifteen minute routine, but after I started applying the Complexion Rescue I was amazed at how much coverage it provided without looking heavy. I had a dewy look in just minutes, and from then on I was in love. However, I still needed some other tips on how to quickly do the rest of my makeup, so I went straight to the source – a YouTube tutorial from BareMinerals with a busy mom just like me.

After watching the video a few times (and aww-ing at the little one with the big yawn there in the middle – I feel you, girl), I felt like I was ready to shake up my morning routine. If this mom was able to get herself fresh and ready in three minutes, so could I. After a week or so of tweaking my “me” time, this is what I figured out:

  • Free your hands – This mom had such a great idea! I often was trying to put my makeup on in a rush because the baby was crying, or I was doing it with one hand because I was holding her. I started to put her in a carrier as I did my makeup instead. No crying, and my hands are finally mine!
  • Get it out – Each evening before I low crawl my way to my bed, I get out my tools for the next morning so I can grab and go. My BareMinerals Complexion Rescue, my BareMinerals powder, and all my tools are laid out on the counter so I’m not fishing through my bag or my drawers to get what I need.
  • No more referee – One of the biggest issues I had getting myself ready in the morning was trying to help settle arguments with my oldest daughters. I spent more time peeking around my bathroom door telling them to “be kind” than I did getting ready. I decided to let them in on the fun instead. I brought their morning items into the bathroom with me – their toothbrushes and hairbrushes – and now they get ready with me. And thanks to BareMinerals Complexion Rescue, I’m done in the few minutes it takes them to brush their hair and teeth.
