Half Year Resolutions: There’s Still Time to Achieve Your Goals

Ok, so we are halfway through the year. Can you believe it? We can’t either. Let’s rewind and talk about those promises you made to yourself at the beginning of the year. Lose weight, be financially responsible, have new experiences, and so on. Looking back, can you say that you have fulfilled those New Year’s Resolutions? If not, can you say that you are certain those resolutions will be achieved within the next six months? Maybe you are on track to check those goals off your list, maybe your plans have become a bit derailed, or maybe you keep telling yourself you’ll “get to it”. No matter how fast the months are flying by, there is still time to make those changes you vowed to uphold through the year when the clock struck midnight on January 1st. Six months down, six months to go until we make a whole new set of resolutions or give the one’s we made in 2017 another try.Half Year Resolutions: There'S Still Time To Achieve Your Goals 1 Daily Mom, Magazine For Families

Top Resolutions of 2017

  • Getting Healthy
  • Getting Organized
  • Living Life to the Fullest
  • Learning New Hobbies
  • Spending Less and Saving More
  • Traveling
  • Reading More

Does this look something like the list of resolutions you made? If so, it’s no surprise. These are the most popular New Year’s Resolutions of 2017. We all have common goals in life. Some we are able to achieve easily, some we need a little help with along the way. Instead of giving up completely on your resolutions, you can alter them slightly to have a better chance of accomplishing them.

Try taking these broad resolutions and focusing your aspirations on more specific, attainable objectives. So many people end up failing at their New Year’s Resolutions because they are too aggressive with their plans. They try to fulfill everything that encompasses these vague issues rather than taking baby steps and checking things off your list. Once you get in the routine of sticking to the resolutions for six months or a year, you will easily be able to carry it over to the next year and add on another new, specific resolution.

For example: If losing weight is one of your resolutions, try cutting back on fast food for 2017, and once you have established a habit of rarely eating fast food you can move on to something different for 2018 such as trying to incorporate organic foods in your diet.

Tips for Success

Instead of “Getting Healthy”, try cutting back on eating fast food or doing 30 minutes of cardio a few times a week.

“Living Life to the Fullest” is subjective. The point is to feel happy with your life choices. As long as you can look back at the end of the year and feel content with your life you can accomplish this resolution. You don’t have to be a thrill seeker to live your life to the fullest.

“Learning New Hobbies” should be enjoyable, not a chore. Pick specific hobbies that interest you and bring you happiness by acquiring them. Have this hobby in mind so you will stick to it instead of telling yourself that you will learn a new trade. Tell yourself “I am going to learn photography this year” or “I am going to start horseback riding”.

“Spending Less and Saving More” is always a difficult resolution because people tend to assume that you need to be putting away large amounts of money to achieve this. The truth is, even the smallest contributions to a savings account can make a difference. Instead of saying that you are going to save more money, promise to make a financial change by choosing to establish a new way of saving, such as opening a Roth IRA.
